Friday night was great fun - we had my parents, Aunt Lindsay, Uncle Doug, Ella, and G.G. for a BBQ. It would have been outside...except for the rain! The rain that hampered driving and made my errands take twice the usual time. I think Will knew that he was in for a big weekend, he fought sleep all morning, and then took a 3.5 hour nap - not totally unusual for him - but the timing stunk! A very nice evening was had by all - we were able to catch up in person, and we all enjoyed a lovely dinner from the grill (thanks Dave!!).
Saturday morning we were off to the aquarium to see the seals, fish, sharks, sea otters - and even better - to see Ella and Will see the seals, fish, sharks, and sea otters. Will was ready to pass out from over stimulation after about 30 minutes of looking at fish. Ella (2 years old!!) thought the whole aquarium was amazing, and pretty much ran everywhere. It is always a joy to see the world through a child's eyes, and Ella is no exception - the touch tank, all the fish tanks, were amazing from her perspective. We spent a lovely afternoon in our backyard (thank goodness for a bit of sun and slightly warmer weather). A little bocci and a few beers for the boys, and a bit of relaxing with eyes closed in the sun for the ladies.
Off to dinner at the local Japanese steak house for dinner. Hibachi for 13 can be a challenge, so we were spread out, but it was great fun. I was worried that Will would be startled and cry at the fire and loud noises from the chefs - but he was ok. He was more upset when I took the chopsticks wrapper away...
This morning's challenge - Will's wardrobe. I had ironed his little suit for his baptism, and was NOT interested in it getting wrinkled in the car seat on the way. So the original plan was to put him in his brunch outfit (who takes a 7 month old to brunch in a white baptism suit!?!), change him at church and then change him back after pictures. I should have known better!! Will fell asleep in his crib about 15 minutes before we needed to leave for church (figures). So the plan changed - take him in pj's, change him at church. He woke up just before the transfer to the car seat, so then plan C - put him in the baptism suit (who cares about wrinkles, we care about SLEEP at this point!) and just go. So we did. And he stayed. In the white suit. Through church. And pictures. And brunch. He just kept falling asleep at the worst times - so he finally got out of his suit when we got home. But he made it through a ton of situations that were potential "screamers" with no screaming. He was the usual charming William - really making me think that I seriously underestimate my son on these occasions...
So - our first Mother's Day - was lovely....I spent it with my 2 favorite guys, our family, and there was a whole lot of love...you can't ask for anything more!!
